Women's Lacrosse Rolls to an 18-8 Win over Marymount

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini put on a dominant defensive performance in the first half and cruised to an 18-8 win over Marymount University today at Edith Robb Dixon Field in a rematch of last year's conference championship.

Senior Olivia Little stuffed the stat sheet to the tune of eight goals on a career best 19 shots, eight draw controls, seven ground balls and four caused turnovers. Classmate Shea Neary added six points, including four markers, five ground balls, five draw controls and matched Little's four caused turnovers.

Graduate student Ashley Tutzauer and freshman Morgan McClintock also marked the score sheet twice, while senior Dana Carlson chipped in with a pair of assists.

Senior goaltender Sam Hamalak came up big with eight saves, including several from point blank range to secure the victory.

The Blue and White grabbed an early lead, as Little and Neary gave the home side a 2-0 lead in the game's first minute. Little completed her hat trick less than six minutes into the game to give Cabrini a 4-0 lead after 15 minutes.

While it took the Cavaliers nearly 15 minutes to score the game's next goal, the Blue and White turned to a stingy defensive effort to maintain the lead. Cabrini held Marymount to just two shots and pressured the Saints into eight turnovers over the game's opening 20 minutes.

The Blue and White extended its lead to 7-0 midway through the second quarter, as McClintock, sophomore Caroline Gallagher and Neary marked the scoring column.

Marymount finally broke through the Cabrini defense with just under five minutes left in the period, but Neary's third goal of the day sent the Cavaliers into the halftime break with a commanding 8-2 lead.

Cabrini showed no signs of slowing down in the third, as Little added two goals in 41 seconds before the visitors rallied. Marymount netted three unanswered goals to pull within 10-5 at the 8:08 mark of the period, but the Cavaliers had an answer.

The Blue and White responded with three consecutive goals of its own, as Little free position goal extended the lead back to eight. The Saints added a goal with 85 seconds left in the period, but sophomore Marissa Mullan found the back of the net with 25 ticks on the clock, sending Cabrini into the fourth with a 14-6 lead.

Marymount converted a free position shot at the 9:00 mark, but the Cavaliers responded with a four goal spurt, with Tutzauer, Little and Neary accounting for the scoring.

The Cavaliers outshot the Saints 46-21, just two shots shy of a season high, while matching a season best with 14 caused turnovers, including two each from Gallagher and freshman Sarah Fava.

Cabrini's defensive effort held the Saints to 11 goals and 16 shots below their season averages.

Senior Sarah Agrillo had her hand in seven of the Saints' eight scores, pairing three goals and four assists, while classmate Mariel Russ tallied 15 saves.

The Cavaliers will step out of conference play on Saturday, as they welcome Colorado College to Edith Robb Dixon Field. The opening draw is scheduled for 2pm.
