RADNOR, PA - The Cabrini University baseball team extended its' win streak to four as they won both halves of their Atlantic East Conference doubleheader versus the Marywood University Pacers.
Game One: Cabrini 5, Marywood 2
A three run fifth inning propelled the Blue and White to a come-from-behind 5-2 victory in game one.
The Cavaliers tallied 10 hits in the win as four Cavaliers had multi-hit games. Seniors
Mack McKisson and
Gil Peralta, as well as graduate student
Steven Priest and sophomore
Pat Toal recorded two hits apiece. Seniors
Garrett Laraia and
Dustin Sutton also marked the hit column. Priest and Laraia knotched two RBIs apiece, while McKission added one to his team high 38 on the season.
The Cavs received a strong start from freshman
Brian Dino who improved to 3-1 on the season. The freshman went the full seven innings and allowed two hits and two earned, while striking out eleven.
After three scoreless innings to start the day, which was highlighted by a 6-4-3 double play to end the top of the third, the Pacers hit a 2-RBI homer in the top of the fourth to break the scoreless drought, 2-0.
Cabrini responded in the bottom of the fourth as they put two runners into scoring position thanks to a base hit, and an error in center field set up Laraia for his two-RBI double to center field, 2-2.
After a 1-2-3 inning for Marywood, McKission started the rally with a solo homerun, his third homer of the year, to grab the lead, 3-2. Sutton and Peralta followed with a single and double, respectively to enter into scoring position and Priest plated both with a deep single to right field, 5-2.
The Pacers were held without a hit over the final two innings of play as the Cavs secured the 5-2 victory.
Game Two: Cabrini 3, Haverford 2
The Diamond Cavs recorded six runs in the bottom of the second inning and never looked back as the team cruised to a comfortable 17-5 Atlantic East Conference victory over Marywood in the night cap.
The Cavs offense was led by senior
Gil Peralta, who went a perfect four-for-four at the plate, who matched the team's single game high with six-RBI. Peralta also recorded two runs and a stolen base.
McKission, Priest, Toal, Laraia and sophomore
Christian Strickland all recorded two hits. McKisson trailed only peralta with three RBI, and a team-high three runs as well as two walks. Four additional Cavaliers, Sutton, Brook, sophomore
Kyle Krautstrunk and junior
Shane Chavez-Zottnick rounded out the hit column with one a piece as the Blue and White recorded an impressive 18 hits on the day.
Sophomore
Dom Marotta toed the rubber for the Cavs and allowed one run and two hits, with one strikeout, across three innings of work. Sophomore
Zack Brook appeared on the mound for the first time this season and earned the win as he put in 2.2 innings of work. Brook allowed just one hit and struck out two to earn the win.
After a scoreless first inning, the Blue and White erupted for six runs on seven hits as they went through the lineup. Six Cavaliers hit one-baggers, highlighted by a pair of two-RBI singles from McKission and Peralta.
The Pacers responded with one run in the top of the fourth and fifth before the Cavs tacked on four additional runs in the bottom of the fourth as they went through the lineup for the second time, with four hits, an error and a pair of walks. The run was emphasized by a two-RBI double down the left line by Peralta as Cabrini ended the inning up 10-2.
The Cavs outscored the Pacers 5-0 over the next two innings to put the game out of reach at 15-2. Marywood added three runs on four hits in the top of the seventh but it was too little and too late as the Diamond Cavs cruised to the 17-5 victory.
Following today's games the Diamond Cavs improve to 23-8 overall and 8-4 in conference play. Cabrini will travel to Camden, NJ this Tuesday, April 26
th for a non-conference game versus Rutgers-Camden. First Pitch is slated to be thrown at 6PM.
