RADNOR, PA – The Cavaliers saw their eight game win streak come to an end today, as the Blue and White suffered a pair of losses to Neumann University today at Cabrini Field.
The Cavaliers could not overcome an early deficit in the opener, falling 6-3. In the nightcap, the Blue and White saw its late lead slip away, falling 8-7.
Despite the defeats, the Cavaliers secured the number two seed in the upcoming Atlantic East Conference Tournament and will host a pod of games on Friday and Saturday.
Today also marked the program's annual Senior Day. Between games, the Blue and White recognized the efforts of its four seniors,
Allison Martin,
Kaitlyn Martin,
Faith Pitsikoulis and
Emily Wargo.
This group led the Cavaliers to 63 wins, including a 27-13 record in Atlantic East Conference games, and soon to be 3 trips to the conference tournament, including the 2022 Atlantic East championship game. They accumulated 253 hits, 147 runs and 130 RBI.
Game 1: Neumann 6, Cabrini 3
The Cavaliers threatened to open the scoring in the bottom of the first, loading the bases, but could not cross the plate. Neumann took advantage of the opening in the top of the second, scoring two on three hits.
The visitors doubled their lead in the fourth and added two more in the fifth to build a 6-0 lead.
The Blue and White, meanwhile, could not find its offense, recording just two hits through five innings.
Cabrini began a late comeback attempt in the fifth.
Kaitlyn Martin opened the frame with a single, before scoring on a Wargo single. Sophomore
Emma Barbera then drove in two runs with a single to left, cutting the Blue and White deficit to 6-3.
Sophomore
Ariana Mirenda went 3-4 in the loss with a pair of stolen bases, breaking the program's single season record of 37 steals.
Junior pitcher
Avery Byrnes fell to 10-6 on the season after allowing five earned runs on nine hits over 4.2 innings.
Game 2: Neumann 8, Cabrini 7
The Blue and White looked to rebound in the nightcap and got off to a great start. Freshman pitcher
Sammi Sisolak stranded the bases loaded in the top of the first, then the Cavaliers offense took over.
Sophomore
Madison Gugel doubled then scored on a single by classmate
Kelsey Huling. Huling then scored on a Wargo double, staking the home team to a 2-0 lead.
The Blue and White bats stayed hot in the second. An error, a walk and a single loaded the bases before
Kaitlyn Martin's single scored Barbera. Huling then cleared the base with a double to right center, extending the lead to 6-0.
The Knights got two runs back in the top of the third, but
Kaitlyn Martin's RBI double in the fourth gave Cabrini a seemingly comfortable 7-2 lead after four innings.
The lead remained 7-2 until the top of the sixth, when Neumann mounted a comeback. The Knights climbed back into the game with five singles early in the frame, but it was a three run bomb over the left field fence that put the Knights ahead for the first time in the game.
The Cavaliers looked to make a comeback of their own, but could only muster a Wargo single in the bottom of the seventh.
Four players recorded two hits each for Cabrini, including Huling, who also drove in four runs. After keeping the Knight in check for five innings, Sisolak allowed seven earned runs on nine hits in 6.1 innings of work, but it was freshman
Dorian Ilyes who suffered the loss after allowing the sixth inning home run.
