Byrnes Records 3rd No Hitter, as Softball Scored 2 Shutout Wins

RADNOR, PA – The Cabrini softball team put on a pair of dominant performances today and now sits one win away from a return trip to the Atlantic East Conference Championship Series.

Junior Avery Byrnes tossed her third no-hitter of the season, while sophomores Ariana Mirenda and Madison Gugel hit home runs to power the Cavaliers to an 8-0 win over Marymount in Game One.

In game two, a neutral site match-up between Immaculata and Marymount, the Saints hit three home runs to overpower the Mighty Macs 11-5.

In the nightcap, the Blue and White offense exploded for nine runs in the fourth inning to blow open a close game, en route to a 12-0 victory over Immaculata.

The Cavaliers will face Marymount on Saturday at 10am. A win will secure a place in next weekend's conference championship. Due to the double elimination format of the tournament's pod play, a loss in the opener means the teams will meet in a winner take all Game 5 at noon.

Game One: Cabrini 8, Marymount 0
The Cavaliers grabbed an early lead, as Mirenda opened the bottom of the first with a solo home run, her second of the season.

That was all the offense Byrnes needed, as the junior was in full command. After allowing a pair of base runners in the top of the first, the junior hurler surrendered just a second inning walk to the Saints.

Cabrini added to its lead in the second, as freshman Dorrian Iyles singled in senior Kaitlyn Martin. Two batters later, Mirenda claimed her second RBI, as her fielder's choice scored sophomore Emma Barbera. One batter later, the Blue and White put the game away, as Gugel sent the ball into the wood beyond the center field fence for a three run homer, her second of the season, and a commanding 6-0 lead.

The home team extended its lead in the fourth. Sophomore Abby Tobelmann opened with a double before crossing the plate, as Mirenda reached on an infield error. Mirenda then stole second and third before scoring on a wild pitch.

Byrnes struck out seven batter in five innings to secure her third no hitter in her last five starts. Tobelmann paced the offense, going 2-2 with a pair of runs scored, while Mirenda and Gugel combined for five RBI and four runs scored.

Game Three: Cabrini 12, Immaculata 0
Mirenda and Gugel, again, sparked the Cabrini offense in the nightcap. Mirenda opened the top of the first with a single then stole second before scoring on a Gugel double to center field.

The Cavaliers extended their lead in the second. Cabrini loaded the bases with one out before a Mirenda belted a double to left center, plating Tobelmann and Barbera.

That was plenty of offense for freshman Sammi Sisolak recorded her first career shutout, allowing just three hits with five strikeouts.

Two of those Immaculata hits came in the third, as the Mighty Macs looked to make a comeback, but Sisolak shut the door on the threat.

The Cavaliers took advantage on the top of the fourth, scoring nine runs on eight hits.

Three consecutive one out singles loaded the bases, before all three runners advanced on a wild pitch, scoring Mirenda. Freshman Shauna Stotler's single through the left side plated senior Kaitlyn Martin. Senior Allison Martin was hit by a pitch to reload the sacks before a Barbera single scores senior Emily Wargo.

Ilyes drew a bases loaded walk to score Stotler before Tobelmann drove in a pair of runs. Mirenda's double to right center plated two runs, before junior Sam Kilson singled to score Mirenda.

Sisolak improved to 9-3 on the season after allowing just three hits with five strikeouts. While seven Mighty Macs reached base via walk or base hit, Sisolak stranded all seven with just one advancing to third base.

Nine Cavaliers accounted for the team's 15 hits, among the most the team has recorded in a game this season. Mirenda led the way with a 4-4 performance with three runs scored and four RBI, while Gugel, Allison Martin and Barbera added two hits each.
