ITHACA, NY – The Cavaliers dominated the second and third quarters then held on for a18-15 win over No. 22 Haverford on the opening round of the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Cabrini's fourth NCAA Tournament victory secured a spot in Sunday's second round match-up against No. 10 Ithaca. The opening draw is slated for 1pm.

Senior Olivia Little led the Blue and White with seven goals on just nine shots to go with two ground balls and seven draw controls.

Fellow senior Dana Carlson added six goals on eight shots, five draw controls and a caused turnover. With today's output, Carlson became the sixth player in program history to record 100 points in a season.

Classmate Shea Neary paired two goals, a helper and 14 draw controls, while graduate student Ashley Tutzauer and sophomore Olivia Pace added two points each.

Senior goaltender Sam Hamalak secured the victory with eight saves and a caused turnover.

The Fords grabbed an early lead with five goals in the opening 6:19. The Cavaliers responded with three unanswered goals but trailed 6-3 after 15 minutes of action. Both teams alternated goals early in the second before Cabrini seized control of the day.

The Cavaliers reeled off five consecutive goals to close the second period and added two to open the third, taking an 11-7 lead. A Haverford goal briefly stopped the run, but markers by Pace, Neary and Carlson extended the advantage to 14-8 with just under seven minutes left in the third.

A Tutzauer goal pushed Cabrini's lead to 15-9 in the final minutes of the third, but a Fords marker in the final second of the quarter gave Haverford some momentum.

The Fords carried their scoring run into the final period, scoring the first three goals of the fourth to pull within 15-13 at the 6:46 mark. The Cavaliers would Haverford get no closer. A CarlsoN goal pushed the lead back to three goals, as goals by Carlson and Pace answered Haverford goals over the final five minutes.

The Cavaliers held a slim 33-25 advantage over the Fords, but Cabrini's 21-8 advantage in the second and third quarters proved to be important. During the same time frame, the Cavaliers scooped six ground balls to just one for Haverford and won 13 of the 18 draws.

Sunday's meeting will mark the second meeting between the Cavaliers and the Bombers, who earned a bye into the tournament's second round. Ithaca topped Cabrini 9-8 in 1999
