Volleyball splits home tri with Catholic and Vassar

RADNOR, Pa. – In their first home matches in over a week, the Cabrini University volleyball team split a pair of matches against Catholic and Vassar.

The Cavaliers lost their opening match 3-2 to Catholic, but, rallied to sweep Vassar by a 3-0 score to move their season record to 5-6.

Catholic 3, Cabrini 2

After the Cardinals (5-6) took the first set, Cabrini took a 2-1 lead after winning the next two sets 25-21 and 29-27. Catholic won set four 25-13, then took the fifth and deciding set 15-9.

Graduate outside hitter Hannah Dalton had 23 kills to lead both sides, while adding in two aces, two blocks and eight digs.

Senior setter Taylor Downing netted 16 assists with graduate setter Lexi Conte getting 14. Senior setter Melanie Cotes-Rivera had 12 assists, including her 1,000th career assist early in the contest.

Defensively, graduate libero Gina Custer had 23 digs for the Cavs.

Cabrini 3, Vassar 0

Set scores in the nightcap were 25-18, 25-17 and 25-24. Cabrini hit .429 in the first set (15-3-28), finishing the Vassar match with a hitting percentage of .262 (13-5-30).

Again, Dalton led the way with 13 kills and four aces for the Cavs. Sophomore outside hitter Sam Heenan had four aces as well, with Custer getting three.

Conte had 16 assists, with Downing getting 13. Defensively, Custer had 16 digs in the second match.

Prior to the start of the tri-match, Dalton was honored for getting her 1,000th career kill in a match against Stevenson last week.

Cabrini travels to Swarthmore on Wednesday.
