RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini men's basketball team fell at home for the first time this season as the Cavaliers dropped their Atlantic East Conference opener 68-56 to Marymount University Wednesday night in Nerney Field House.
The Cavaliers (5-8, 0-1 Atlantic East) fell behind early as halfway through the first half, Marymount built a 17-7 advantage. Freshman Emanuel Mosely cut the deficit to eight, 19-11, but a Marcus Stubbs 3-pointer put the Saints (5-8, 1-0) up by 11 with 8:28 left before the break. At the 5:09 mark, a
Jaden Dickerson layup put the Cavs within five points, but over the last 5:00 of the half, Marymount outscored Cabrini 13-5 to take a 38-25 lead into the break.
To begin the second, the Cavs and Saints traded 3-point field goals as
Christian Lane answered back after a Wyatt Hockenberry triple. Cabrini continued to trail by double digits until another Dickerson layup made it a three-possession game with 14:22 left. This was the closest the Cavs would get as Marymount led by double figures for the remainder of the contest, outscoring Cabrini 21-18 down the stretch despite the Cavs outscoring the Saints 31-30 overall in the second half.
Ryan Byars led all Cavaliers scorers as the senior put up a 16-point, 10-rebound double-double, with 14 points coming in the second half.
Christian Lane added nine points, going 3-for-7 from long range.
Marymount's Wyatt Hockenberry led all scorers on the night as he put up 28 points, going 6-for-10 from beyond the arc and 9-of-18 overall.
The Cabrini men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Jan. 7 as the Cavs head to Salisbury, Md. for a non-conference bout with the Seagulls. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m.
