Game Recap: Soccer (Women) |

Pacers top Cavaliers 1-0 on Rainy Afternoon

Radnor, PA - On Saturday, Cabrini Women's Soccer hosted the Pacers of Marywood University. Marywood notched the match's only goal on a pass sent over the Cavs defense.

Thirteen minutes into the game, Cabrini put together a solid scoring chance. On the play, Jenna DeTetta played a really good through ball to Gabby Palladino. Palladino carried deeper into Pacers' territory and placed a shot on goal, but her try was saved by the Pacers' goalkeeper.

Cabrini strung together passes to create another look midway through the first period. As Rebekah Cunningham won possession, she played ahead to Maggie McCay. McCay settled, then led Rylie Butler to the left corner. Butler sent a lively cross through the box, but it went untouched.

With two minutes until half, Erin Ewing drew a foul from 30 yards out, setting up a Cavalier free kick. Rebekah Cunningham used the set piece to place a shot low-left on goal, but the rebound was cleared before any Cavaliers could get a follow-up shot.

Cabrini conceded the game's lone goal just after the halftime break. As Marywood passed to their center back, she booted the ball from beyond the midfield circle to near the attcking penalty arc. There, a Pacer forward collected the ball and dribbled into the box before scoring far post.

With two minutes remaining, Maggie McCay nearly snuck a shot beneath the hands of Marywood's goalkeeper, but the goalie kept her body over the ball.

Despite a series of chances and free kick opportunities, Cabrini was unable to get on the board.

Caroline Hassall recorded seven saves on the afternoon, routinely securing the ball in troublesome weather conditions. Amanda Elwell played several strong corner kicks, two of which entered the goal box on the fly. The Pacers' keeper batted away both crosses.

With the 1-0 win, Marywood, the defending Atlantic East champions, jumped to first place in this year's standings.

Cabrini returns to Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday, 10/18. The Cavaliers will travel to New Jersey to face Centenary University.
