Game Recap: Soccer (Men) |

Ameyaw Nets Brace in Senior Night Win

The Cavaliers provided plenty of fireworks, taking 22 shots and picking up a convincing Atlantic East Conference victory.

Radnor, PA - On Wednesday night, Cabrini Men's Soccer hosted the Cyclones of Centenary University in what could have been their final contest at Edith Robb Dixon Field.

Prior to the match, Cabrini recognized the twelve graduating members of the Men's Soccer team. The entire starting eleven consisted of these soon to be Cabrini graduates, with senior goalkeepers MJ Graham and Griff Rogers splitting halves.

First Half Action

It took just two minutes for the Cavaliers to get on the scoreboard. On the sequence, Cabrini strung together three passes up the right sideline that spanned the length of the field. First, MJ Graham found the feet of John Ameyaw, who hit ahead to Matt Duddy. Duddy took a touch forward just past midfield, then played to Nick LoBiondo. LoBiondo carried into the box and scored a right footed strike far post.

Cabrini nearly extended their early lead in the eighth minute. The action began with Jake Scully jostling for positioning to prevent a Centenary clear, awarding Cabrini a right side corner kick. On the attempt, Nolan Holloway crossed to Dominic Petruzzelli, who volleyed a shot that came off the crossbar.

Late in the first half, another Cabrini shot attempt deflected off the woodwork. This time, Nick D'Achille intercepted a lateral pass intended for a Centenary defenseman. D'Achille then attempted to feed the ball past Centenary's center back and keeper, but his left footed try struck the left side of the crossbar. RJ Carlucci rose up for the rebound off the bar, but his header went just above the goal frame.

Second Half Action

In a frame where the Cavaliers took twelve shots, John Ameyaw produced both Cabrini goals.

First, in the 61st minute, Jake Scully emphatically sent the ball deep into Centenary territory, out of play over the right sideline. John Ameyaw stole possession immediately following Centenary's throw-in from that mark, then worked for a shot from the right side. Ameyaw quickly found a window, as he lifted a shot over the oncoming keeper, off the crossbar, and in.

Less than four minutes later, Cabrini punched in their third. After Jake Scully sailed a throw in from the left sideline, Kevin Davis made the first touch on the ball near the goal box. Several Cyclone defenders worked to pry the ball from Davis' feet, but he was able to poke the ball to John Ameyaw, who's one timer found the back of the net.

Centenary spoiled the Cavalier's clean sheet with 13 minutes remaining. Off a right side corner kick, the Cyclones played a cross that met their top goal scorer, who tucked a header beneath the crossbar.

Cabrini held onto their two goal advantage, taking the match by a score of 3-1 behind Ameyaw's first career brace.

The Cavaliers improved to 3-2 against Atlantic East Conference opponents on the season. Tonights's win upped their chances of hosting an AEC tournament game.
