Cavs Top Lions in Regular Season Finale

Alfa Orihuela’s first career goal proved meaningful in Cabrini’s 1-0 win.

Radnor, PA - On Tuesday night, Cabrini Women's Soccer hosted the Lady Lions of Penn State Abington.

First Half Action

Cabrini's best goal scoring chance came from a 42nd minute cross. As Rebekah Cunningham led Grace Langefeld to the corner, Langefeld carried into the box and sent a pass inside. Maggie McCay slid to meet the cross, but her attempt bounced off the nearest defender before being gathered by PSU's goalkeeper.

The Lions threatened to score late in the opening period, as their top goalscorer found three first half shots. Her third was a corner kick try that struck the top of the crossbar before clearing the goal frame.

Seven different Cavaliers recorded a shot in the first period, but none found the back of the net.

In her first career start, goalkeeper Kiki Soto kept the Lions off the scoreboard.

Second Half Action

PSU-Abington came out of the break aggressive, logging four shots in the first eleven minutes. Second half goalkeeper Hailey Bond collected two of the tries while the other two missed high.

In the 54th minute, Cabrini netted the game's only goal. On the sequence, Gia Rebilas passed to Erin Ewing across midfield, who then hit ahead to Alfa Orihuela in space. The Lions' back line couldn't catch Orihuela, as her right footed strike found the right side of the goal.

The Cavaliers created four more shots to close the match, but walked away with the 1-0 victory to conclude the regular season.

Upcoming

Cabrini looks forward to hosting an Atlantic East Conference quarterfinal match on Saturday 10/28. Their opponent will be determined by Wednesday's AEC game slate.
