Gwynedd Valley, PA - On Wednesday afternoon, Cabrini Men's Soccer defeated the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy University.
Cabrini conceded the game's first goal. 25 minutes into play, Gwynedd Mercy earned a right side corner kick from a deflected cross. On the corner, the Griffins made a near post run and connected on a header, placing the ball into Cabrini's net.
Trailing 1-0 early, the Cavaliers offense answered back. In the 37th minute,
Jalen Hammond gained possession and darted into Gwynedd Mercy territory. Hammond played a give and go with
Matt Duddy, then megged a defender on a touch pass to
Kevin Davis. Davis received the ball eight yards from the post, then used his right foot to roll a shot past the keeper.
With a half hour remaining in the second half, Cabrini netted their go-ahead goal. Awaiting a right side corner kick, several Cavaliers gathered between the offensive goalposts, causing traffic and obstructing defenders' vision.
Liam Glenane then placed his left-footed corner kick over defender marking front post, off the Griffins' goalkeeper, and in the right side of the goal. Glenane scored his corner kick attempt unassisted, putting the Cavs ahead 2-1.
Cabrini staved off some late pressure from Gwynedd Mercy to secure the come from behind win.
The Cavaliers worked the Griffins' defense this evening, taking 26 shots.
Nick LoBiondo was most aggressive in creating chances, taking six shots and placing four on goal himself. Defensively,
Griff Rogers made three saves and the Cavaliers blocked three shots in the match.
Cabrini plays their second Atlantic East Conference opponent on Saturday 10/7. They will host Marymount at Noon.
