Radnor, PA - On Saturday afternoon, Cabrini Men's Soccer defeated the Saints of Marymount University 2-0.
In the 7th minute, the Cavaliers took advantage of Marymount's defensive positioning to score the game's opening goal. On the play,
Matt Duddy settled the ball off his chest to
Nolan Holloway. Holloway used a few touches to line up a distant strike, then booted the ball past the defense and over the reach of Marymount's goalkeeper. Holloway's 40+ yard shot sailed from near midfield to the goal netting on the fly, giving the Cavs an early 1-0 edge.
In the second half, Cabrini extended their lead. Approaching midfield,
Cormac Dooley forced Marymount's ball-carrier into a mistouch.
Hunter Rolles collected the heavy touch, then played ahead to
Nick LoBiondo. LoBiondo used his speed to split the Saints' back line, then beat the diving keeper and sliding close-out defender with a right footed strike. LoBiondo's goal put the Cavaliers in front 2-0.
Cabrini nearly iced the game with six minutes to go.
Riley Senisi made two defenders miss, creating a shot from the high left corner of the penalty box. Senisi's shot came off the body of Marymount's keeper so quickly that
John Ameyaw, who had followed the play and positioned himself well for the rebound, could not bury the second chance attempt.
Marymount continued to battle from behind, but the Cavs defense held firm.
Dominic Petruzzelli and
Jake Scully, Cabrini's vocal defensive leaders, headed, blocked, and cleared many of the Saint's best scoring opportunities away. The Cavaliers allowed just 3 shots on goal in the match.
Cabrini, now 2-0 in Conference play, will face two more Atlantic East opponents next week. The Cavs take on Neumann on Wednesday, 10/11 and Marywood on Saturday, 10/14.
