Radnor, PA - On Wednesday night, Cabrini Men's Basketball hosted the Garnet of Swarthmore College. The No. 11 ranked Garnet finished their 2022-23 campaign 28-4 and won the Centennial Conference before earning a trip to the Final Four.
First Half Action
Cabrini generated an early lead out of the gate, as the Cavaliers scored 14 points in the first five minutes of play.
An
Eric Neal and-1 off a left handed layup and an
Isaac Brady rolling cut gave Cabrini a 16-9 lead.
The Cavaliers reclaimed a 7 point advantage with a
George Marion layup that moved the score to 18-11, and a
Bryan Warren layup that sent the score to 22-15.
After
Keenan Reiss made an inside hand lay-in,
Eric Neal swiped the Garnet inbound pass. Neal then fed
Jaden Dickerson underneath to create a quick four point swing.
Swarthmore pounded the ball inside, finding their bigs at the block for much of their late first half offense.
Cabrini entered the halftime break with a 38-35 lead.
Second Half Action
Shortly after a 9-0 Garnet run,
Donoven Mack drove through the key to earn an off hand layup and a foul.
Out of a stack play beside the paint,
Eric Neal found
Keenan Reiss at the right block for a finish through contact. Reiss' free throw lessened Swarthmore's lead to 52-50.
Down single digits with 7 minutes to play,
Isaac Brady and
Donoven Mack knocked down three point jump shots to even the score 61-61. After Swarthmore answered with a three of their own,
Bryan Warren was fouled on a three point attempt and made each of his free throws to knot the score 64-64.
Swarthmore's 47 second half points and 26 rebounds overcame Cabrini, as the Garnet notched 24 points in the paint and 10 from the stripe.
Isaac Brady (18 points),
Donoven Mack (16 points) and
Bryan Warren (10 points) all reached double figures in the contest, while
Eric Neal collected 9 points, 5 assists, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals in the 82-76 loss.
Upcoming
Cabrini travels to Selinsgrove this weekend for the National Beef Susquehanna Tip-Off Tournament. Their two day game slate begins on Friday, as the Cavaliers will first face Susquehanna University at 8 pm.
