HACKETTSTOWN, NJ – The Cabrini University men's basketball team topped Centenary University Saturday afternoon 74-67 as the Cavaliers took the second meeting against the Cyclones to sweep the season series.
The Cavaliers (10-13, 5-5 AEC) got on the board first as freshman
Isaac Brady went down low in the paint and knocked one off the glass to get the scoring going. By the 14:39 mark, the Cyclones took an 11-7 edge after a trey from Tyler White, but the Cavs responded quickly with a jumper from
Ryan Byars followed by a go-ahead triple from
Aquil Stewart to put Cabrini back in front 12-11. By the 8:00 mark, the Cyclones held a 21-14 lead, their largest of the half, but two minutes later, Brady knotted the contest at 21 apiece with a jumper in the paint. The two squads continued to go back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, but Centenary's White knocked down a 3-pointer at the end of the half to give the Cyclones a 33-31 lead headed into the break.
Out of the break, the Cyclones (7-15, 2-8) began the second half the same way they ended the first: with a 3-point field goal, as Centenary took a 36-31 lead. With 16:34 left in regulation, Cabrini regained the lead on a fast break layup from sophomore
Ahmadu Sarnor, but by the 11:36 mark, the Cyclones held a 50-42 lead. Centenary held their lead for the next six minutes, but by the 5:10 mark, the Cavs stormed all the back as a Stewart layup sparked a 13-7 run over the final five minutes of the contest.
Brady and Stewart led the Cabrini offense on the night as the freshman-sophomore duo each finished with 19 points while Sarnor recorded his seventh double-double of the season with 16 points and 11 boards. Byars also tallied double figures as the senior finished with 12 points and added five assists.
The Cabrini men's basketball team returns to the hardwood on Wednesday, Feb. 15 as the Cavaliers head to Neumann University for a bout with the Knights. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
