Cavaliers fall to Gwynedd on Senior Day, earn No. 5 seed in AEC playoffs

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's basketball team dropped its final regular season contest Saturday afternoon as the Cavaliers fell 66-64 to Gwynedd Mercy on Senior Day.

Fourteen seconds into the contest, Gwynedd got on the board first on a jumper from Dom Thomas. Cabrini followed with a three-pointer from senior Christian Lane to give the Cavaliers (10-15, 5-7) one of their two leads in the first half. At the 15:17 mark, Ahmadu Sarnor knocked down a jumper to give the Cavs an 8-7 lead, but that was the last lead Cabrini held in the half as the Griffins outscored the Cavaliers 30-13 from that point on and took a 37-21 lead into the break.

In the second half, Gwynedd's lead ballooned to 17-points as the Griffins led 40-23 at the 18:49 mark, but 20 seconds later, Lane sparked a 12-0 run as he knocked down three consecutive treys before Sarnor capped the run with a 3-pointer of his own to make it a 40-35 deficit by the 15:59 mark. The Griffins continued to lead for much of the half, but after a 9-0 Cavs run, Cabrini held a 58-55 lead with 3:11 left, the team's first lead of the contest since the 15:17 mark in the first. With 2:21 left in regulation, Stewart hit a 3-pointer to go ahead 61-56, but Gwynedd finished the game on a 10-3 run to win 66-64 and split the season series with Cabrini.

Stewart led all scorers in the contest as the sophomore finished with 20 points and added four assists while Lane tallied 14 and Ryan Byars put up 10.

Cabrini finished the regular season with a 10-15 overall record and went 5-7 in Atlantic East Conference action, finishing as the No. 5 seed for the AEC championship tournament.

The No. 5-seeded Cavaliers will head to No. 4 seed Immaculata University on Monday, Feb. 20 for an Atlantic East Quarterfinal matchup. Tip-off is set for 8 p.m.
