Women's Lacrosse drops heartbreaker to 24th-ranked Haverford in overtime, 16-15

HAVERFORD, Pa. – In a rematch of last year's NCAA first round, 24th-ranked Haverford and Cabrini went down to the wire needed extra time to decide the outcome.

A Haverford (1-0) goal from Tiffany Mikulis with 2:02 left in overtime gave the Fords a 16-15 win over the Cavs (1-1).

For Cabrini, Olivia Little had five goals and one assist, while Shea Neary had four goals and three assists on 17 shots on the afternoon. Olivia Pace added in two goals.

Defensively, Neary had two caused turnovers and four ground balls to go along with seven draw controls.

In goal, Abbey Fenton kept Cabrini in it making 11 saves.

Haverford started out with a 3-0 lead in the first six minutes, before Cabrini got on the board with a extra-man goal from Neary at 8:05 to go in the first period. Cassidy Starner would pull the Cavs within one at 3-2 with a goal at the 5:44 mark.

Trailing 4-2, Cabrini got goals from Neary and Pace to tie the score at 4-all. Neary netted the tying goal with 1:46 left in the quarter. Haverford would take a 5-4 lead after one period of play as Mikulis scored at the 1:14 mark.

Cabrini would open up the second quarter with two goals, the last coming at 5:29 left in the stanza on from Little for Cabrini's first lead at 6-5.

Haverford would then rattle off three straight goals, before the Cavs got another goal from Neary at the 12:13 mark of the third quarter, taking an 8-6 lead.

Down 9-7, Cabrini went on a 4-0 run with goals from Maggie Cella, Little, Pace and the last from Little at 59 seconds left in the third for an 11-9 lead – the Cavs biggest lead to date.

Haverford would re-tie the score at 11-all, before Cabrini got more goals to go up 13-11 as Little and Neve Murphy found the back of the net, the last coming at 13:01. Neary scored with 6:41 left in the quarter giving Cabrini a 14-11 lead.

The Fords then strung together four straight goals, three of them from Sam Sliverman, to take a 15-a14 lead with 1:34 left. Morgan McClintock then scored the tying goal – on an assist from Little – with 63 seconds left to tie the score at 15-all.

Following McClintock's goal, Little controlled the draw control and the Cavs got two shots at the game-winning goal. Caroline Gallagher's shot was saved at 48 seconds and Olivia Pace's shot at 28 seconds hit the post. Neary had one last shot at four seconds but it sailed high.
