Cavaliers top Rosemont in 15-1 drubbing

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team used an eight-run first inning Friday afternoon to rout Rosemont College 15-1 in seven innings at Cabrini Carroll Field as the game was called before the top of the eighth due to darkness.

In the bottom half of the first, after a scoreless top half from starter Jordan Silvestri, the Cavaliers (2-1) put up eight runs on just three hits with the big blow being a bases clearing double from Pat Toal

In the third, the Cavs tacked on two more as Zack Brook cranked a solo homer to left center and Jake Eagle roped an opposite field double to right center to push the Cabrini lead up to 10-0 after three innings. After going 1-2-3 in the fourth and only a two-out single in the fifth, the Cavaliers bats came back to life in the sixth as Cabrini batted around and plated five more runs. Ethan Gill led off the inning with a single, then with two outs, the Cavs had four straight hits beginning with a single from Dustin Sutton and then back-to-back-to-back doubles from Garrett Laraia, Brook, and Jon Sepe to run up the score to 15-0 after six.

Cavaliers pitching held the Ravens hitless through six innings as Rosemont did not break into the hit column until the top of the seventh with a lead-off single from Samson Gerner. Gerner later scored their lone run of the game, but catcher Colin Kind recorded Cabrini's final defensive out on the day as the freshman gunned down Julian Albanese as he tried to steal second.

In his first start of the year, Silvestri went just two innings with no runs and no hits. Allen Yager and James Mercante followed suit with two innings apiece as Yager recorded one punchout while Mercante had four.

The offense put up 15 runs on 14 hits as Brook finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Toal went 2-for-5 also driving in three.

The Cavaliers are back in action in Myrtle Beach, S.C. for its annual spring break beginning on Monday, Feb. 27 when Cabrini takes on York College. First pitch is set for noon.
