Cavaliers fall to Manchester but Silverstri shines against Eastern

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Cabrini University baseball team split its doubleheader Tuesday as the Cavaliers dropped their first game of the day 12-4 to Manchester University but responded with an 11-1 win over Eastern University in their second game of the afternoon.

Manchester jumped on Cabrini starter Dom Marotta from the get-go as the Spartans scored three runs in the top of the first. In the fourth, MU tacked on two more with another in the fifth and then a five-run seventh led to an 11-0 Cavaliers deficit. In the home half, Cabrini trimmed its deficit to nine runs as RBIs from Brady Campbell and Dustin Sutton put the Cavaliers on the board. In the eighth, Zack Brook drove home Jon Sepe with an RBI-single and in the ninth, Jaden Dickerson doubled home Sutton, but it was not enough for Cabrini to complete the comeback.

The second game of the day for the Cavaliers began with two runs in the first off of an Eagles miscue and then a six-run fourth highlighted by two-run homers from Ryan Dipper and Zack Brook made it an 8-0 Cavaliers lead after four. In the eighth, with the Cavs up 10-0, senior Christian Strickland doubled home Sean Glatts for Cabrini's 11th run of the ballgame.

The real story of the day was Cabrini starter Jordan Silvestri. The sophomore right-hander went 8 and 1/3 innings against the Eagles, allowing one unearned run on just four hits with seven punch outs. Senior Allen Yager came on in relief to get the final two outs of the contest.

Cabrini returns to action on Wednesday, March 1 as the Cavaliers take on Mary Washington. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
