RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University men's basketball team topped Immaculata University 75-66 Wednesday night in an Atlantic East Conference rematch inside Nerney Field House.
The Cavaliers (9-13, 4-5 Atlantic East) fell behind early, but five straight points from
Aquil Stewart and
Ahmadu Sarnor put Cabrini out in front 11-8 with 15:47 left in the opening half. By the 10:59 mark, the Mighty Macs (8-15, 5-5) knotted the contest at 17 apiece, but after a Sarnor trey with 8:46 left gave the Cavs a five-point lead, senior
Ryan Byars led Cabrini on an 18-9 run as he scored 16 points in the first half and helped the Cavs to a 39-28 lead by the 2:00 mark. Immaculata cut into the Cavs lead over the final two minutes, but Cabrini held strong and took a 39-34 lead into the break.
In the second half, the contest continued to go back-and-forth with neither team holding a lead larger than four points until the 7:13 mark when Sarnor knocked down the first of back-to-back-to-back treys. From here, the Cavs never relinquished the lead as Cabrini led by five or more points for the remainder of the contest. Two late consecutive makes from freshman
Isaac Brady and Stewart sealed the win for Cavs as Cabrini went on to win by nine.
Sarnor recorded his sixth double-double of the year as the sophomore led all scorers on the night with 23 points and pulled down 13 boards. Stewart put up 21 points and added eight assists while Byars tallied 18 points with two steals.
The Cabrini men's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 11 as the Cavaliers head to Hackettstown, N.J. to take on the Centenary University Cyclones in an Atlantic East Conference matchup. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
