RADNOR, Pa. – Olivia Little recorded a hattrick and four other Cavaliers netted two goals as the Cabrini University women's lacrosse team took down Widener University 13-9 Saturday afternoon on Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Thirty seconds into the contest,
Shea Neary netted the Cavs first goal of the game on an assist from
Neve Murphy and Cabrini was off and running.
Cassidy Starner followed Neary's goal with two of her own to close out the first quarter as the Cavs held a 3-0 edge through the first 15:00. In the second, Cabrini found its stroke as four different Cavaliers scored, opening the quarter on a 4-0 run to take a commanding 7-0 lead with 9:52 left after
Neve Murphy's second of the quarter. Widener's Catherine Scott put the Pride on the board at the 7:30 mark, but a
Caroline Gallagher goal made it 8-1 Cavs and after two Pride goals, Cabrini took an 8-3 lead into the intermission.
After the break, the two squads traded goals in the beginning minutes of the third, but Cabrini extended its lead to 11-4 with 3:50 left after another goal from Neary and two from
Olivia Pace. The Pride responded and closed out the third with two goals to cut the Cavs lead to just five, 11-6. Widener's goal streak continued in the fourth as Katie Ward netted one for the Pride to make it an 11-7 game with 14:13 remaining in regulation. With 5:44 left, Little snuffed out Widener's comeback flame as she scored twice more and despite two late goals from the Pride, the Cavs held on for the 13-9 win.
Murphy, Neary, Pace, and Starner finished with two goals each on the day with Murphy and Neary each adding two assists. In goal,
Abbey Fenton recorded 10 saves.
The Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, March 15 as Cabrini hosts Moravian University in a non-conference matchup. First draw is set for 6:30 p.m.
