RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University women's lacrosse team outlasted a tough Moravian University team as the Cavaliers came out on top against the Greyhounds 16-14 Wednesday night in a mid-week nail biter.
The first quarter of Wednesday night's contest set the tone for the rest of the game as Moravian went out in front 4-1 by the 6:55 mark.
Olivia Little cut the Cavaliers deficit to just one with back-to-back goals, but the Greyhounds took a 5-4 lead into the second after trading goals to end the quarter. In the second, Moravian extended its lead to 6-4 right away on a free position goal from Devin King, but that was the final lead the Greyhounds held as the Cavs scored seven unanswered goals in the quarter with two from both
Shea Neary and
Olivia Little to give Cabrini an 11-6 lead headed to the break.
Out of the intermission, the two squads traded goals in the middle part of the third as Moravian's Alex Cherenson netted the Greyhounds seventh goal of the contest, but just seconds later,
Olivia Pace responded with a goal of her own to put Cabrini ahead 12-7. By the 8:06 mark, Moravian cut the Cabrini lead to just four, 13-9, but a late-quarter, man-up goal from Little put the Cavs ahead by five with one quarter left to play. In the fourth, the Greyhounds outscored the Cavs 5-2, but a goal from
Maggie Cella at the 4:09 mark gave the Cavs much-needed insurance and helped solidify the 16-14 win.
Little finished the game with 10 points as she tallied six goals with four assists for her second double digit points game of the year. Neary finished with three goals and one assist and led all offensive players on the night with 10 draw controls.
The Cavaliers outshot the Greyhounds 54-17 on the night.
Cabrini's women's lacrosse team returns to action on Friday, March 24 as the Cavaliers head to Stockton University for a non-conference bout with the Ospreys. First draw is set for 5 p.m.
