GALLOWAY, N.J.—The Cabrini University women's lacrosse team fell to Stockton University 11-10 in a thriller Friday afternoon on the road.
The Cavaliers (4-3) jumped out to an early lead Friday afternoon as
Neve Murphy netted the first goal of the contest just 45 seconds in. Less than a minute later,
Shea Neary found the back of the net and Cabrini held a 2-0 lead with 13:35 left. At the 3:30 mark, the Ospreys answered with a goal, but
Olivia Little scored to take back a two-score leade for the Blue and White. With one second left in the period, Stockton's Mary McLaughlin scored on a free position attempt and the contest was all knotted at three apiece. The two squads continued to trade goals in the second period as the Ospreys took a 5-3 lead to open the quarter, but the Cavs answered with three consecutive scores, two from Murphy and one from Neary, to take a 6-5 lead. The Ospreys knotted the game at 6-6, but Neary's third goal of the game with just under a minute left, gave Cabrini a 7-6 lead headed to intermission.
In the second half, it took until the 8:46 mark for either team to score, but it was the Cavs that broke through first as Cabrini scored twice in a row and took a 9-6 lead with 8:12 left. The Ospreys responded with a late goal before the end of the quarter, but Cabrini took a 9-7 lead headed to the fourth. Stockton's Isabella Marinello opened the final period with back-to-back goals to tie the game once again.
Olivia Pace answered Marinello with her first of the game to keep the Cavs up by one, but this was the last lead Cabrini held as the Ospreys scored twice down the stretch and held on to top Cabrini 11-10.
Murphy and Neary each finished with a hat trick while Little finished with one goal and two assists for three points.
On the day, Neary tallied nine draw controls hitting the 300 mark for her career, making her the second Cavalier ever to reach that mark. She currently sits at 300 for her career and is second 152 behind Cabrini's all-time leader in Avery Murphy.
The Cavaliers return to action on Wednesday, March 29 as Cabrini heads to Rowan University for a mid-week bout with the Profs. First draw is set for 4 p.m.
