Narciso powers Cavaliers past Knights in doubleheader sweep

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team belted five home runs on the day and combined for 24 runs on 25 hits across both games of its doubleheader Sunday afternoon as the Cavaliers swept Neumann University in its first Atlantic East Conference action of the year at Cabrini Carroll Field.

Game 1 took about half the time of Game 2 as the Cavaliers (12-7) and Knights (6-10) opened the day with a 2-1 ballgame in seven innings. Graduate student Dustin Sutton led off the bottom of the first with a home run to straight-away center to put Cabrini ahead 1-0. That was all that Cavaliers starter Pat Toal needed as the junior posted six scoreless frames against the Knights. Then in the top of the seventh, Neumann broke through with a two-out rally as the Knights knotted the game at one apiece with an RBI-double down the right field line. In the home half, Zack Brook led off the inning with a walk, advanced to second on a passed ball and set up a walk-off RBI-single from Colton Narciso to give the Cavs the 2-1 victory.

In Game 2, the Cavaliers bats came to life right away as Cabrini batted around in the bottom of the first and plated eight runs on six hits with the big blow being a three-run homer from Ben Houghton. The Knights answered with three runs in the top of the second, but the Cavs regained an eight-run lead with three runs of their own in the bottom of the third. In the fourth, Narciso and Ryan Dipper hit back-to-back homers and put the Cavs up 14-5. In the fifth, Narciso continued to swing a hot bat as he launched a three-run dinger over the left field fence to put the Cavs up 18-7. Four more Cabrini runs crossed the plate in the seventh and despite the Knights three-run ninth, the Cavs held a commanding 11-run lead as Ryan Brown closed out the ninth and sealed the 22-11 win.

Narciso finished the day with five hits, including two homers, with seven RBIs and four runs scored. He is now tied with Sutton for the team lead in home runs with five. Sutton finished the day with four hits and four RBIs for the Cavaliers. Six Cavaliers players recorded a multi-hit game in Game 2 as Houghton, Ryan Dipper, Christian Strickland, and Zack Brook all joined Narciso and Sutton with multiple hits in the game.

Sunday's second game was the second time the Cavs put up 20 or more hits and was the first time Cabrini scored 20 or more runs.

The Cavaliers return to action on Monday, March 27 as Cabrini travels to Neumann for the final game of the three-game series, looking for a sweep. First pitch is set 3:30 p.m.
