Silvestri, Marotta pitch Cavaliers to 5-0 shutout over Marywood

RADNOR, Pa. – Sophomore Jordan Silvestri led the Cabrini University baseball team to its fourth win in a row Friday afternoon as the right-hander went 6 and 2/3 shutout innings to blank Marywood University 5-0 and remain unbeaten in Atlantic East Conference play.

The Cavaliers (14-7) struck first as Ryan Dipper drove in Dustin Sutton on a fielder's choice to give Silvestri a 1-0 lead. Then in the second, Zack Brook led off the inning with a double to center and after he advanced to third on a passed ball, Jaden Dickerson plated Brook with a sacrifice fly to extend the Cavs lead to 2-0.

Both starters battled it out over the next four innings, but it was the Cabrini bats that broke through in the sixth inning. Sean Glatts roped a two-strike, two-out single up the middle to drive in Christian Strickland who doubled to lead off the inning. In the top half of the seventh, with runners on second and third with two outs, head coach Nick Weisheipl pulled Silvestri and brought in junior Dom Marotta who promptly threw one pitch and induced a line out to left, stranding two in scoring position. Marotta dominated the remainder of the game out of the bullpen and in the eighth, the Cavs offense plated two more insurance runs as Cabrini took advantage of a Pacers miscue and received an RBI-double from Brady Campbell to extend the lead to 5-0.

On the day, Silvestri scattered four hits over his 6 and 2/3 scoreless innings with four punch outs. Marotta earned his first save of the year as the junior only allowed two hits and struck out three, with two in the top of the ninth.

Colton Narciso went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single as the junior shortstop extended his hit streak to six games.

The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday, April 2 as Cabrini heads to The Electric City for a doubleheader against the Pacers to wrap up the three game Atlantic East Conference series. First pitch is set for noon.
