Cavaliers end Spring Training trip with 14-6 win over Manhattanville

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Cabrini University baseball team put up 14 runs on 15 hits Saturday morning as the Cavaliers topped Manhattanville College 14-6 in the final game of their 2023 Spring Training trip.

After starter Pat Toal tossed a scoreless top of the first, the Cavaliers (7-4) jumped out on top 4-0 in the bottom half as a Valiants miscue and a Jake Eagle triple led to three Cabrini runs. A batter later, a bunt single from Sean Glatts drove in Eagle for the Cavs fourth run of the inning. In the third, Cabrini tacked on three more with an RBI-double from Eagle to plate Jaden Dickerson followed by a two-run single three batters later, from Dustin Sutton to put Cabrini in the driver's seat and ahead 7-0.

In the fourth, the Cavs added five more runs on four hits as Eagle, Glass, and Sutton each had RBI-singles in the inning. Two innings later, the Valiants (0-1) cut into the Cavs lead as Manhattanville put up four runs on five hits, but in the bottom half of the sixth, Cabrini responded with a Brady Campbell RBI-single to go ahead 13-4 after six innings.  The seventh saw the Valiants tack on two more but by the eighth, the Cavs lead grew to eight again as Garrett Laraia put the finishing touches on the day with an RBI-single of his own to plate Sutton.

Cabrini pitching combined for 11 punchouts on the day as Toal finished with five in 2 and 2/3 innings followed by five K's and 2 and 1/3 perfect innings from Jordan Silvestri. At the plate, Eagle finished the day 3-for-5 with three RBIs and was a halfway to the cycle with a triple and a double. Sutton went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Glatts had three hits and two runs driven in.
