Cavaliers take rubber match over Cyclones

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team took the rubber match of a three-game set with Centenary University Tuesday afternoon as the Cavaliers used a five-run sixth inning to spark a comeback and top the Cyclones 11-10 at Cabrini Carroll field.

Centenary jumped out to a 2-1 lead through an inning and a half, but in the home half of the second, Jaden Dickerson knocked in three runs with a bases-clearing double to left center to put the Cavaliers out in front 4-2. Cabrini's lead only lasted two innings as a four-run fourth from the Cyclones tipped the scales back in Centenary's favor with a 6-4 lead. Then in the bottom half, a Dickerson sacrifice fly made it a one-run game through four innings.

After the Cyclones were set down quietly in the fifth and sixth, the Cavs followed their quiet fifth with a five-run rally in the sixth as Dustin Sutton led off the inning with a double and later scored on another RBI-knock from Dickerson. Two batters later, Christian Strickland put Cabrini top for good as he sent an inside fastball to the train tracks beyond the left field wall to make it an 8-6 ballgame. Junior Ryan Dipper later drove in a pair with a two-run double to give Cabrini a 10-6 lead through six.

Centenary continued to battle as the Cyclones plated runs in their final three at-bats, but Cavaliers reliever Zack Brook held onto the lead and secured an 11-10 win and his first save of the season.

Dickerson finished the day 3-for-4 with two doubles and five RBIs while Strickland was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Sutton tallied four hits on the day as the graduate student went 4-for-6 with two doubles and three runs scored.

The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, April 14 as Cabrini heads to Immaculata for a bout with the Mighty Macs. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
