RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team split its doubleheader against Immaculata Saturday afternoon as the Cavaliers took Game 1 5-4 in in walk-off fashion but fell 12-0 in Game 2.
In the opener, Immaculata jumped out in front 3-0 in the top of the first as the Mighty Macs scored three runs on four hits before the Cavs had their turn at the plate. Cabrini starter
Jordan Silvestri settled in after the first inning as the sophomore went 6 and 1/3 innings and allowed four runs with just one earned. In the bottom of the second,
Zack Brook led off the inning with a free pass and later scored on a fielding miscue by the Mighty Macs third baseman. Two batters later,
Ryan Dipper knocked in
Sean Glatts with an RBI-single to make it a one-run game. The very next inning,
Christian Strickland plated
Colton Narciso on a long single to left to knot the game at 3-3 after three complete.
In the home half of the fourth, the Cavs scored for the third inning in a row as Strickland drove in
Dustin Sutton to give Cabrini a 4-3 lead. Then with two outs in the seventh, Immaculata's Frank Margiotta scored on a steal of home to retie the game at four apiece. With the game knotted up at 4-4, Strickland once again came to the plate with men in scoring position and promptly roped a ball to left field plating
Allen Yager and walking it off for the Cavs.
On the mound,
Dom Marotta tossed 1 and 2/3 hitless innings in relief as the junior recorded his third win of the year. At the plate, Strickland went 3-for-4 with three singles and three RBIs to lead the Cabrini offense.
In Game 2, it was all Immaculata. The Mighty Macs opened the ballgame with a five-run top of the first and followed that with two more in the third, one in the fifth, and four in the seventh. Mighty Macs starter Ryan Crowell went the distance as he allowed just two Cavaliers hits on the day.
Senior right-hander
Davin Conway threw a scoreless top of the sixth for the Cavs.
The Cavaliers return to the diamond on Friday, April 21 as Cabrini hosts Wilkes University in a non-conference matchup. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
