Cavaliers with two walk-offs, sweep PSU-Brandywine

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University softball team swept its doubleheader against Penn State Brandywine Tuesday afternoon as the Cavaliers walked off the Lions twice with a 5-4 win in Game 1 and a 10-2 win in five innings in Game 2.

In Game 1, Cabrini took a 1-0 lead in the second as Kaitlyn Delaney smacked an RBI-double to left center to plate Sydney Andrews. An inning later, Abby Tobelmann scored on an RBI-knock from Madison Gugel to put the Cavs up 2-0 after three.

In the fourth, the Lions answered with back-to-back RBI-doubles to knot the game at 2-2, but Cabrini's Avery Byrnes helped herself out as the senior pitcher plated Gugel with an RBI-single in the fifth. The Cavs and Lions then traded runs in their respective halves of the sixth to send the game to the seventh tied 4-4. After the Lions went quietly in the top half, Tobelmann led off the bottom half with a double, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and then came around to score on a Brandywine miscue to give the Cavs a 5-4 Game 1 win.

Game 2 was all Cavaliers from the jump. Cabrini got out to a 6-0 lead in the bottom of the first as Gugel launched an opposite field three-run home run to left followed by an RBI from Kaitlyn Delaney and a two-run homer from Holly Smith to cap off the six-run first inning.

In the fourth, Cabrini added two-more runs on back-to-back singles from Tobelmann and Gugel to go ahead 8-1 after four innings. Then in the fifth, Sam Kilson smashed a line drive over the right field fence for her first career homer and Cabrini's ninth run of the game. Four batters later freshman Skyler Shuman ended the game with an RBI-fielder's choice to plate Sam Taddei and give the Cavs their fourth win in two days.

Cabrini returns to action on Thursday, April 20 as the Cavaliers host Franklin and Marshall College in a non-conference doubleheader at Cabrini Field.
