TYSONS, Va. – The Cabrini University baseball team split its doubleheader with Marymount University Saturday afternoon as the Cavaliers dropped Game 1, 5-0 but bounced back to take Game 2, 3-1 at Capital One Park.
In Game1, the Cavaliers were stymied by Marymount starter Andrew Schaeb as the Saints left-hander held the Cavs hitless in the first game of the day.
In Game 2, the Cavaliers immediately bounced back as
Colton Narciso roped a one-out single in the top of the first and later scored on an RBI-knock from
Ben Houghton to put Cabrini ahead 1-0. In the fourth, the Saints knotted the game at one apiece on a Bryce Smith homer. Then in the sixth, Cabrini regained the lead on an RBI-single from
Dustin Sutton and in the ninth, Narciso scored on a Saints balk to give the Cavs an insurance run.
Dom Marotta worked around a leadoff double in the bottom half as the junior shut the door on a Saints comeback to seal the 3-1 Cabrini victory.
On the mound,
Ryan Brown gave the Cavs 7 and 1/3 innings of one-run ball as the sophomore scattered six hits with two strikeouts and did not walk a batter. Marotta came on in relief of Brown in the eighth and worked a scoreless 1 and 2/3 innings to earn his second save of the year.
Hitters two through five in the Cabrini order each had two hits in Game 2 as Houghton had one RBI and Narciso scored two of the Cavs three runs.
The Cavaliers return to action on Sunday, April 30 for the rubber match against the Saints. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. at Cabrini Carroll Field.
