RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team took the rubber match of its series against Marymount University as the Cavaliers topped the Saints 13-3 at home Monday afternoon.
The two squads played scoreless ball through three and a half innings until
Jaden Dickerson broke the tie with an RBI-double to plate
Dustin Sutton. Then in the fifth, the Cavs tacked on five runs with three singles as
Ben Houghton plated
Colton Narciso with a single followed by a two-run knock from
Zack Brook to give Cabrini a 3-0 edge.
Ryan Dipper followed Houghton with a single of his own to load the bases before
Sean Glatts roped one up the middle to drive in Brook and Houghton and extend the Cavs lead to 6-0 after five innings.
In the sixth, the Saints got on the board with a solo homer from Craig Sodano followed by two more runs in the seventh on an RBI-single from Rob Cable and a run-scoring double play to cut the Cabrini lead in half. In the bottom of the seventh, the Cavs answered with seven runs as Glatts drove in his third of the game with a sacrifice bunt followed by RBIs from
Brady Campbell and
Dustin Sutton. The big blow came from
Jaden Dickerson who missed a three-run home run by inches as he settled for a two-run double – his conference-leading 19th of the season – to give the Cavs a 13-3 advantage.
Junior
Pat Toal started on the bump for the Cavs as the Springfield native went two innings of scoreless baseball followed by four innings of work from
Blake Weinstein to earn his fifth win of the year and three perfect innings from
Dom Marotta for his third save.
At the plate, Dickerson and Glatts each finished with three RBIs while Sutton and Houghton had multi-hit games going 2-for-5 and 3-for-4, respectively.
The Cavaliers return to action on Friday, May 5 as Cabrini plays Gwynedd Mercy as the visiting team at Cabrini Carroll Field. First pitch is set for 3:30 p.m.
