CAMDEN, N.J.—The Cabrini University baseball team fell 7-6 to Rutgers-Camden University in a thriller Monday night at the Rutgers-Camden Athletic Complex.
The Cavaliers (15-9) jumped out to an early lead Monday night as
Ben Houghton led off the second inning with a double and later came around to score on an RBI-single from
Zack Brook to put the Cavs up 1-0. In the fourth Cabrini plated two more with a lead-off homer from Houghton followed by an RBI-double from
Ryan Dipper four batters later to take a 3-0 lead. Then in the home half, the Scarlet Raptors got on the board with a bases loaded walk followed by a two-run single from Jacob Watson to knot the game at three apiece after four innings.
Cabrini answered with single runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to take a 6-3 lead headed to the bottom of the seventh. Rutgers-Camden made it a game in their half of the inning as the Scarlet Raptors plated two runs to cut the Cavaliers lead to 6-5. In the eighth, the Raptors comeback came to a head as a Cavaliers hit by pitch forced in the tying run and then an RBI-double in the ninth walked it off for Rutgers-Camden and the Cavs fell 7-6
Houghton finished the day 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBIs while Brook went 3-for-4 with three singles and an RBI.
The Cavaliers return to action on Thursday, April 6 as Cabrini heads back to the Garden State for an Atlantic East matchup with Centenary University. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
