Sutton hits for the cycle as Cavaliers win big over Gwynedd

RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University baseball team took the first game of its final regular season series as the Cavaliers topped the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins 19-3 as the visiting team on their home field.

The Cavaliers fell behind 3-0 after three innings of action as the Griffins took advantage of a Cabrini miscue in the second inning and an RBI-single in the third. The Cavs quickly answered with 16 runs over the next three innings with a five-run sixth inning and a nine-run seventh. Back-to-back RBI-singles from Colton Narciso and Jaden Dickerson gave the Cavaliers the lead for good followed by homers from both Christian Strickland and Zack Brook to cap off the sixth inning.

In the seventh, Brady Campbell led off the inning with a single and immediately scored on an RBI-triple from Dustin Sutton to begin the nine-run frame for Cabrini. Narciso then drove in Sutton and later scored on Dickerson's first homer of the season to make it 11-3. The next seven Cavaliers hitters reached base and Cabrini's lead ballooned to 16-3 with a sacrifice fly from Narciso to cap off the inning.

In the top of the ninth, Sutton entered the inning a home run away from Cabrini's third cycle in program history and second in as many weeks. The graduate student delivered as he pulled one to right field for two-run shot and his fifth hit of the day.

The Cavs finished the afternoon with a season-high 29 hits. One through four in the order combined for 17 hits, 12 RBIs, and 11 runs scored as Narciso, Dickerson, and Strickland all had four hits each while Sutton finished with five.

The Cavaliers conclude regular season action on Saturday, May 6 as Cabrini hosts Gwynedd Mercy for Senior Day and the final Atlantic East Conference doubleheader of the season. First pitch of game one is set for noon.
