RADNOR, Pa. – The Cabrini University women's lacrosse team advanced to the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship with its 21-11 win over Neumann University Wednesday afternoon.
The Cavaliers opened the semifinal game with two quick goals from
Maggie Cella as the freshman scored twice within 40 seconds. Graduate student
Olivia Little followed suit with back-to-back goals of her own to make it a 4-0 game by the 6:53 mark. The Knights got on the board less than 20 seconds later, but the Cavs answered with two more goals to end the first period with a 6-2 lead. The scoring streak continued in the second as
Shea Neary began a string of four straight goals to give Cabrini a 10-2 lead with 9:03 left before the break. Over the final 8:25 of the period, the Knights outscored the Cavs 3-2, but Cabrini took a 12-5 lead into the intermission.
On the other side of the break, the two squads traded goals for the first four and half minutes of the third as Cabrini held a 14-7 lead with 10:29 left. After the Knights seventh goal, Little led off a string of four in a row from the Cavs as she netted two more of her own and Cabrini took an 18-8 into the final period. In the fourth, Little netted her sixth goal of the game as both teams scored thrice but the Cavs double digit lead helped seal their 13th win of the year and send Cabrini to the AEC Championship.
Five Cavaliers finished with a multi-goal game as Little led the day with six while Cella and
Shea Neary had four each and
Morgan McClintock and
Olivia Pace had three and two, respectively.
The Cavaliers will host No. 2-seeded Marywood for the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Championship. First draw is set for Saturday, May 6 at 4 p.m.
