St Mary's City, MD - On Sunday afternoon, Cabrini Men's Soccer was unable to secure a victory in game two of the Seahawk Classic, falling to St. Mary's by a score of 4-1.
Cabrini conceded the game's first goal in the 15th minute, as the Seahawks connected on a volley inside the Cavaliers defensive box.
Four minutes later, St. Mary's scored goal number two. The same two Seahawks provided their second, as a lead pass from the right side was met near the penalty marker and sent into the left side of the goal.
The Cavaliers sought to get back into the game, making use of a free kick near midfield.
Nolan Holloway took the set piece and lofted the ball forward. The ball was batted aside by the head of a St. Mary's defender, but
John Ameyaw read the deflection. Ameyaw used the outside of his right foot to hit the ball in the air, tucking it just inside the near goalpost.
Ten minutes into the second half, St. Mary's extended their lead to 3-1. The goal came after a St. Mary's shot attempt from the right side was saved by
MJ Graham from the ground, but a Seahawks forward was the first to the rebound and punched it in.
St. Mary's tacked on their fourth and final goal in the 84th minute, when a Cabrini foul set up a penalty kick for St. Mary's. Cavalier's keeper
MJ Graham dove to his right and denied the attempt, but the Seahawks shot-taker followed the ball and poked it in after the save.
The match was more animated then most, with 26 fouls and 7 total cards assessed during the contest.
Following the two weekend losses, Cabrini now sits 2-0 at home and 0-3 in road games.
Going forward, the Cavaliers will look to clean up their defense. Coach
Rob Dallas comments "We haven't been good enough in our last three games. We have a lot of areas we need to improve but at the top of that list is defending. We are giving up entirely too many goals right now." On the upcoming matchup, Dallas adds "We know we have a tough opponent coming to town. We need to bounce back and improve on the defensive end before we kick off on Wednesday."
Cabrini will host Rutgers-Camden on Wednesday, 9/13, with kickoff slated for 7:30pm.
