Game Recap: Soccer (Men) |

Men’s Soccer Locks In for 2-0 Win

Radnor, PA - On Wednesday night, Cabrini Men's Soccer hosted the Scarlet Raptors of Rutgers University Camden.

Eager to snap a three-game slide, the Cavaliers played with a lot of grit. The team placed an emphasis on preventing goals, showing energy after every strong defensive play. Some notable blocks were made by members of Cabrini's "wall", as the Cavs' short line of defenders used their bodies to halt two of Rutgers' direct free kicks.

The Cavaliers got on the board in the 37th minute. Cabrini made three one-touch passes in succession, the last coming from Nolan Holloway, who made a great pass ahead to John Ameyaw. Ameyaw received the pass deep in Rutgers territory, on the far right side of the penalty box. Despite the tight angle, Ameyaw was able to strike the ball past the Scarlet Raptors' goalkeeper and into the left side webbing.

Twenty minutes into the second half, Cabrini netted their second. A Rutgers mistouch in the midfield allowed Matt Duddy to take possession. Duddy carried the ball into Cabrini's attacking third, then led a pass to Kevin Davis. Davis used a left-footed shot to beat a sliding defender and goalkeeper. Davis' shot landed inside the right post, giving the Cavaliers a two goal advantage.

Cabrini stayed locked-in, maintained their lead, and won the contest 2-0. Postgame, coach Rob Dallas echoed the team's defensive focus. "We spent a lot of time reflecting on our recent run of games, searching for ways we can improve our defensive play. I think we did a great job of that tonight, being stout defensively and keeping the zero, especially against a good team." Dallas adds "It felt great to earn that one in the fashion we did, we felt like we were in control for a lot of the match. We hope to carry that momentum into our next game."

Cabrini will host Eastern University on Saturday, 9/16. It will be the last time the neighboring programs face off.
