Radnor, PA - On Wednesday afternoon, Cabrini Women's Soccer hosted the Knights of Arcadia University. Arcadia entered the game with some offensive rhythm, having earned a 5-1 victory over UMass Boston on Saturday.
Cabrini would attack early, placing two shots on goal in the first three minutes of the contest. In half number one, the Cavaliers strung together passes and regularly played the ball through the midfield. Their play rivaled the Knights, trading shots and offensive looks. The Cavs best looks resulted from free kicks, seven of which came in the first half. The Cavaliers showed a lot of defensive attentiveness as well, preventing open looks and drawing the Knights' offsides twelve times in the contest. Nevertheless, Cabrini and Arcadia would enter halftime scoreless.
In the second period, Arcadia quickly turned the game in their favor. After winning possession on the right sideline, the Knights' outside back played a cross ahead to a midfielder who slipped past Cabrini's back line. The Knights placed their shot on the right side of the goal, going up 1-0.
The game's opening goal would prove difficult to come back from, especially as Arcadia raised their intensity.
Arcadia put the game away with a goal that largely mirrored their first. In the 75th minute, Arcadia played a pass back to the right sideline, and crossed the ball to the feet of an open Knight who had broken through Cabrini's defense. Arcadia buried the shot in the right side of the Cavs' goal.
The score would stand, as the Cavs dropped the game 2-0.
After the match, Cabrini's coaching staff called the game "A tale of two halves". Coach
Ken Prothero adds that "Arcadia played really strong when they needed to. They're a good team, a good program. When they played with intensity, it was hard for us to match."
Cabrini will host Goucher College on Saturday, 9/16. The Gophers and Cavaliers will kick off at 3pm.
