Radnor, PA - On Sunday afternoon, Cabrini hosted the Aggies of Delaware Valley University. In the 12th minute, the Cavaliers surrendered the game's first goal. After heading away a DelVal corner kick, an Aggie midfielder sent the ball back into Cabrini's box, giving their foremost attacker an open shot. DelVal scored the lightly contested goal and took the early 1-0 lead.
Following the goal, Cabrini looked to respond. The Cavs took 9 shots and 8 corners before halftime, but the equalizer would eventually come in the second. Just past the logo in their attacking half, defenseman Jalen Hammond was fouled from behind, setting up a Cabrini free kick. Hammond would quickly play the ball laterally to midfielder Ethan Emery, who deked a defender and took the room in front of him to size up a strike from outside the box. Emery's left-footed shot sailed over the diving Aggie keeper, finding the right corner webbing. Emery remarks "I took a good first touch out of my feet, created some space right in front of the 18, trusted my left foot, my dominant foot, and let it fly."
Shortly thereafter, Cabrini would score the go-ahead goal. In the 78th minute, Jalen Hammond sent a throw-in from beyond midfield to the opponents box off one bounce. A DelVal defenseman played the bounce, and attempted to head the ball back to their goalkeeper. A minor slip from the Aggie keeper allowed forward Matt Duddy to intercept the soft pass back, using one touch to flick it over the keeper's closeout. The ball landed in the center of DelVal's goal, giving the Cavs the 2-1 lead. Postgame, Duddy added "Honestly, you don't get those opportunities a lot, so when you get a chance to fight back in a tough game, it really lifts the team up."
Following the come-from-behind victory and promising start to the season, coach Rob Dallas commented "I thought our guys did a really good job today of grinding out the result we needed… Now we get to take our show on the road. We have a tough schedule this year, but we did that as we wanted to challenge ourselves a bit more. We feel good coming out of the weekend 2-0, and we're excited to face a good team on Wednesday."
Cabrini will travel to Center Valley, PA on Wednesday 9/6 to face a DeSales team the Cavs tied 5-5 last season.
