PSU Brandywine Holds Cabrini Back

ASTON, Pa. - The Cabrini University baseball team fell to Penn State Brandywine on Friday night, dropping the game by a 3-6 final. The Cavaliers will look to rebound when they face Moravian at noon on Saturday.

How it Happened
Cabrini got on the board in the opening frame. Garrett Laraia reached base with a walk, followed by Jaden Dickerson's double to put Cavs on second and third base. Ryan Dipper then hit a sac fly to right that scored Laraia for the game's first run.

After PSU tied the game with a bases loaded walk in the first, Hunter Kraiza breezed through the second and third inning. Kraiza retired the Lions in order in the second before turning a 1-6-3 double play from the ground in the third. Brandywine later went ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning after an RBI fielder's choice.

Cabrini got back in front in the top of the fifth. Jacob Roberts and Colt Narciso dropped singles into the gaps to open the inning, allowing Brady Campbell's sacrifice bunt to place them on second and third base. Dustin Sutton worked a favorable count before the Lions opted to intentionally walk him and load the bases. Garrett Laraia and Ryan Dipper were both hit by pitches, allowing the Cavaliers to score twice and take the 3-2 lead.

Penn State Brandywine responded quickly, posting three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Only one run was charged to Hunter Kraiza, who recorded his third punchout in the frame. In the sixth inning, Blake Weinstein took over for Kraiza after the Lions reached base on an infield single and rolled a hit down the left field line. Weinstein had a strong outing in relief, allowing no hits and one walk across 2.2 innings pitched.

Despite a Christian Strickland walk and a Brady Campbell single, Cabrini was unable to manufacture another run in the late innings, awarding PSU the 6-3 decision.

On Deck
Baseball returns to Cabrini-Carroll Field on Saturday, March 16. First pitch against Moravian is set for 12pm noon.
