RADNOR, Pa. - The Cabrini University baseball team defeated Gwynedd Mercy University on Friday afternoon. The Cavaliers lineup put up 6 runs over the 9 inning game, while pitching and defense kept the Griffins from crossing the plate. Cabrini travels to Gwynedd Valley tomorrow to complete games 2 and 3 of the AEC series.

How it Happened

• Kai Cummings faced just nine batters through three innings. He retired the side in the first and forced 6-4-3 double plays to end both the second and third inning.
• The Cavaliers got on the board in the bottom of the third, as a bases loaded walk from Jaden Dickereson brought their first run across. 
• Ryan Dipper followed with a single through the left side, scoring their second.
• Zack Brook brought home another on a sacrifice fly to center.
• Cabrini added their fourth run in the fourth inning. Singles from Colton Narciso and Dustin Sutton put men on the corners for Jaden Dickerson, who delivered a sac fly.
• In the fifth inning, Dustin Sutton layed out to prevent a surefire 2-out hit. The Griffins left a man stranded on first as the catch ended the inning. 
• After Sutton's grab, the Cavs added two more. Zack Brook led off the bottom of the fifth with a double to left center, as Jacob Roberts followed with a 2-out walk. Colton Narciso then had a 2 RBI double off the centerfield fence.
• In the top of the sixth, Kai Cummings struck out Gwynedd Mercy's cleanup hitter, as Christian Strickland doubled off the runner at first base to end the frame. Cummings returned for the seventh inning, retiring the Griffins in order.
• Hunter Kraiza entered in the eighth inning. After a leadoff walk, he'd force a 4-6-3 double play and a flyout to Dustin Sutton in the frame. In the ninth, Kraiza struck out two and recorded the final out on a lineout to left.

The Cavaliers head to Gwynedd Valley for games 2 and 3 of their series with GMU on Saturday. The first game of the doubleheader is set for 12pm noon.
