Baseball Bested in High-Scoring Playoff Opener

RADNOR, Pa. - The 2-seeded Cabrini University baseball team fell to 3-seeded Immaculata University in the opening round of the Atlantic East Conference Playoffs. The Cavaliers had entered the day following a series sweep of the Mighty Macs, though the Wednesday contest did not follow the pattern. Cabrini rose to match the score after an early 3-0 deficit, but Immaculata used a massive middle inning push to claim the contest by a 34-11 final. Cabrini must win out to fend elimination from the bottom half of the AEC playoff bracket. Their next opponent is 4-seeded Gwynedd Mercy who the Cavs will face at 9am on Friday, May 11th at Shenandoah University.

Immaculata sported 3 runs in the opening inning, which Cabrini used two innings to match. Colton Narciso delivered a 2 RBI double in the bottom of the first before Jaden Dickerson drove in a run on a second inning single. The Cavaliers then surrendered a total of 17 runs across the third, fourth, and fifth innings, affording the Mighty Macs a sizable advantage. Cabrini's offense worked to battle back, as Colton Narciso, Alan Bautista, and Garrett Laraia all had RBI doubles in the fifth inning or later. The Cavaliers' late push also featured back to back home runs from Zack Brook and Colton Narciso, as Brook became Cabrini baseball's career record holder in homeruns with 22. Despite Cabrini generating runs off extra base hits, Immaculata created far more offense as the Mighty Macs claimed the plaoyoff opener.
