Since starting at Cabrini in 1966, Marilyn L. Johnson, PhD, has introduced more than 15 courses to the curriculum, among them African-American Women Novelists, Reason and Revolution in Literature, and Broadcast Reporting and Film Making.
Johnson takes a mentor-like approach in the classroom. She prefers to let her students work their way through the course materials and the challenges they present, and devise their own interpretations.
One of her greatest research interests is incorporating technology in standard classes. She parlayed this interest into a presentation titled "Co-Opting New Technologies for Traditional Classes" at the College English Association Conference in 2007.
She also spends time exploring cinematic interpretation of literature, African-American authors, linguistics, the Romantics, and genre studies.
One result of her research was a book she authored in 1974, Images of Women in the Works of Thomas Heywood, for the Salzburg Studies in English Literature.
Johnson holds a B.A. from Spring Hill College, an M.A. from Villanova University, and a Ph.D. from Temple University.
