RADNOR, Pa. – The top-seeded Cabrini men's soccer team has advanced to the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) championship game with a 2-0 win against fourth-seeded Marywood University Thursday at Edith Robb Dixon Field.
Sophomore Troy Allen tallied both goals for the Cavaliers on free kicks. The Cabrini offense out-shot the Pacers to tune of 20-5, including 16 attempts on goalkeeper Jared El Gayeh.
Allen's first score came just less than three minutes into the opening half. Following a Marywood foul just outside the box, Allen's free bent around an out-stretched El Gayeh and into the far post at the 2:38 mark.
The Cavaliers' defense stood tall, carrying the one-goal advantage into the intermission. Allen, senior John Graham, junior Jason Moran and freshman Tyler Harvey spear-headed a Cabrini backline that allowed just three shots on goal throughout 90 minutes of play.
Allen supplied the Cavaliers with a two-goal lead that was to never be relinquished in the 53rd minute. Nearly a replay of his first goal, the first-team All-CSAC selection drilled a free kick through the Marywood defense and past the reach of El Gayeh into the far corner from 30 yards out.
Junior goalkeeper Bryan Johnson collected three saves for the Cavaliers en route to his third shutout of the season.
Allen and senior Mike McDevitt led the Cabrini attack, each recording five shots. Junior forward Justin McCall registered four shots.
Cabrini will meet the winner of second-seeded Immaculata University against third-seeded Neumann College, played tonight at 7 p.m.
The Cavaliers have won five conference championships, the last of which coming in 1999. Cabrini captured three straight league crowns from 1993-95 and a fourth in 1998.
