Men's Basketball Dealt CSAC Loss at Gwynedd-Mercy College

The Cabrini men's basketball team suffered just its third loss in CSAC play Monday at Gwynedd-Mercy College.

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. –
The Cabrini men's basketball team ended its two-game win streak Monday, suffering 90-55 loss at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Gwynedd-Mercy College.

Freshman shooting guard Greg Zabel led the Cavaliers in scoring, posting a career-high 13 points. He shot 4-for-8 from the field overall and knocked down three three-point baskets.

Senior shooting guard Ryan Oxley contributed 12 points, draining 4-of-7 outside attempts. Junior forward Kevin Misevicius and sophomore forward Dom Farrello each added nine points.

Cabrini found itself in a 17-2 hole early following a 14-0 run from the Griffins. The Cavaliers trimmed its deficit to 14 points, 26-12, after two free throws from Misevicius.

However, Gwynedd-Mercy's first-half cushion would reach 25 points, 39-14, amidst a 13-2 run late. Junior point guard Matt Johnson paced the spurt with consecutive three-point field goals.

The Cavaliers closed the half on a 6-0 run triggered by the fast break. Misevicius converted a lay-in on the break before Farrello deposited back-to-back open-court baskets.

Junior forward Chris Blake and Misevicius each recorded six points at intermission. Blake also corralled six rebounds.

The Griffins pushed its advantage to 47-22 in the opening minutes of the second half.

Oxley provided the Cavaliers with a spark in the closing period, draining three three-point field goals.

However, Gwynedd-Mercy's inside presence proved to be too much, using a 9-1 run late in the second half to grab a commanding 76-40 lead.

Forward Dave Smith paced the Griffins with 20 points and 12 rebounds. Shooting guard Lemeire Talley added 18 points and five boards.

Cabrini (11-5, 5-3) resumes its CSAC schedule Thursday, January 29 at Baptist Bible College.
