Men's Basketball Hoists Hardware at Marymount Tournament, Washington Named Most Valuable Player

Sophomore Glenn Washington drained nine three-point field goals in Cabrini's 84-62 win Sunday against Marymount University.

Sophomore shooting guard Glenn Washington claimed most valuable player honors Sunday at the Marymount University Comcast Challenge, leading the Cabrini men's basketball team to an 84-62 win against the host Saints in the title game. Washington led all scorers with 27 points, draining 9-of-12 three-point field goal attempts in the victory.

Sunday marked the second time in Washington's two-year Cavaliers' career that the sharpshooter knocked down nine three-point shots in a single game. He totaled a career-best 33 points last season in a 75-71 setback at Misericordia, shooting 9-for-13 from beyond the arc.

Washington's 27 points against the Saint matches his season-best performance. He tallied a game-high 27 points in the Cavaliers' season-opening 85-81 overtime win against the United States Merchant Marine Academy.

Junior forward Kevin Misevicius also earned all-tournament team honors, collecting 21 points against Marymount. He shot 7-for-14 from the field overall, including a 3-for-6 long range clip.

Senior guard Ryan Oxley tallied 12 points, downing 4-of-7 tries from three-point range. The Blue & Gray shot a scorching 16-for-27 from beyond the three-point arc, including a blistering 69 percent performance in the first half.

Senior point Charles Bush orchestrated a Cabrini offense that shot 50 percent from the field overall, dishing 12 assists. He also posted seven points and grabbed seven rebounds.

For the second time in two games, the Cavaliers' offense raced to a commanding 21-9 advantage by the 13:47 mark. Washington capped the spurt with his second three-ball of the game. Washington and Oxley combined to convert seven three-point field goals in the opening six-plus minutes.

Cabrini thrice owned 19-point cushions in the first half. Washington's sixth three-pointer of the opening period handed the Blue & Gray a 34-15 lead with 9:49 remaining.

Junior forward Chris Blake, making his second straight start, converted a lay-in at 5:02 mark to hand the Cavaliers a 5:02 advantage. Cabrini staked claim to a 49-30 lead at the break.

The Blue & Gray pushed its advantage to a game-high 25 points, 75-50, after Misevicius drained a three-ball with six minutes on the clock. The Cavaliers eclipsed the 80-point plateau for the sixth time this season in the win.

Cabrini (7-2) resumes its Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) schedule Wednesday, January 7 at the Philadelphia Biblical University. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
