GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team is unbeaten in its last five matches after a 2-0 win at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Gwynedd-Mercy College Saturday afternoon. Senior midfielder Brian Raffle scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season for the Cavaliers in the victory.
Senior goalkeeper Bryan Johnson notched six saves for his fifth shutout of the season and the 15th of his Cabrini career.
Junior midfielder Evan Hanauer's third goal of the season, off a feed from senior midfielder Andrew Jacobs, at the 36:56 mark proved to be the game-winning tally. The Cavaliers and Griffins each recorded four shots in the opening half.
The Blue & White added Raffle's insurance tally in the 68th minute as Jacobs contributed his second assist of the contest. The Cavaliers out-shot GMC 13-7 in the second half.
Gwynedd-Mercy goalkeeper Mike Leonard, the CSAC leader in saves per game (8.93) beginning Saturday, totaled seven saves in the loss.
The win is the Blue & White's fourth straight versus the Griffins. Gwynedd-Mercy last defeated the Cavaliers 3-1 October 1, 2005.
Cabrini and Gwynedd-Mercy entered the contest tied for third place in the current CSAC standings. However, the victory supplies the Cavaliers with 16 points this season and sole possession of third place, awaiting the results from today's contests involving Marywood University and Neumann University.
Cabrini (12-3-2, 5-1-1) welcomes Baptist Bible College to Edith Robb Dixon Field Saturday, October 27 at 4 p.m.
