IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Cabrini men's soccer team dropped a 4-1 decision at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Immaculata University Saturday. Senior midfielder Evan Hanauer scored his second goal of the season for the Cavaliers.
The loss ends Cabrini's 11-match win streak against CSAC opponents, dating back to the 2008 regular season and playoffs. Last season, the Cavaliers posted an 8-0 mark against conference foes in the regular season before winning their sixth league title in program history.
Immaculata scored the game's first goal Saturday after Alan Lorentz converted a penalty kick in the 28th minute. Junior back Troy Allen was whistled for a take-down in the box and assessed a red card at the 27:31 minute, giving Lorentz the free kick.
Despite out-shooting the Mighty Macs 8-3 in the first half, the Cavaliers trailed by one goal, 1-0, at the intermission. However, Cabrini evened the contest at 1-1 on Hanauer's unassisted goal at the 60:43 mark.
The Cavaliers had three opportunities immediately following Hanauer's tally to grab their first advantage of the contest, but could not convert.
Immaculata answered with the go-ahead tally and eventual game-winning goal in the 73rd minute. Lorentz deposited his second goal of the game off a feed from Kyle Craig.
The Mighty Macs sealed the win with two goals in the final eight minutes, both unassisted markers from forward Kameron Teel. Teel made it a two-goal with a break-away score at the 82:51 mark. Less than three minutes following, IU pushed its advantage to three goals when Teel beat Cabrini goalkeeper Bryan Johnson.
Johnson tallied three saves in just his third loss of the season. Mighty Macs netminder Stone Gahagan totaled seven stops in the win.
Cabrini (8-3-1, 1-1-0) is back in action Saturday, October 10 at CSAC foe Centenary College. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
