SCRANTON, Pa. - The Cabrini men's basketball team has matched a program record for consecutive wins to start a season with five following a 65-52 victory at Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) opponent Marywood University Thursday night. Junior forward
Dom Farrello led all scorers with a season-high 19 points in the win.
Rookie point guard
Cory Lemons tallied 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, dished six assists and swiped six steals. Senior forward
Kevin Misevicius posted 11 points, eight boards and three thefts.
Sophomore forward
Brandon Carter made his second straight start for the Blue & White, pairing nine points with a team-best nine rebounds.
Cabrini led by seven points at halftime, 30-23, despite shooting just 34.4 percent from the floor. The Cavaliers secured its first lead of the game, 20-18, with 7:44 left in the opening 20 minutes and never looked back.
The Blue & White led by as much as 13 points, 36-23, less than three minutes into the second frame after Farrello knocked down a jump-shot.
Marywood trimmed its deficit to six points, 50-44, at the 7:15 mark, but would pull no closer. The Cavaliers owned a game-high 16-point advantage with 62 ticks left on the clock.
The Cabrini defense forced the Pacers into 30 turnovers while committing just 12 giveaways on the offensive end. Marywood out-rebounded the Cavaliers, 44-35.
The Blue & White shot 20-for-23 from the foul line. Lemons shot a marksmenlike 9-of-10 from the charity stripe.
James Lavan led three scorers for the Pacers in double figures with 13 points. Jacques Robinson (12) and Antre Cole (10) also reached double digits.
Under head coach
Marcus Kahn in his first season, the Cavaliers opened the 2008-09 season with five consecutive wins. The Blue & White has never won six straight games to begin a season.
