Softball Season Ends With 6-4 Loss in CSAC Quarterfinal Round

RADNOR, Pa. –
The Cabrini softball team saw its 2009 season end Wednesday with a 6-4 loss against Immaculata University in the quarterfinal round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament. Freshman SS Sammy Thompson scored two runs for the Cavaliers in the loss.

Cabrini jumped to a 2-0 lead after two innings. The Cavaliers plated one run in the bottom of the first inning after Thompson scored on a wild pitch. The Blue & White tallied its second run of the game one frame following on an RBI single from sophomore C Chrissy Squillace.

Junior P Cheri Johns kept the Mighty Macs scoreless through four innings. However, Immaculata hung four runs on the board in the top of the fifth. Senior P Missy Fetter provided the big hit, sending a two-out pitch over the centerfield fence for a three-run homerun.

Senior C Val Rutt-Guerriere later scored on a wild pitch.

The Cavaliers quickly trimmed its deficit to one run, 4-3, with one tally in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Freshman 2B Ryan McDonough led off the inning with a double. Pinch-runner Leslie Farrell scored two batters later on an RBI ground-out from freshman DP Angela Shookster.

Immaculata tacked on one run in the sixth and seventh innings. The Blue & White provided one last gasp in its last at-bat, scoring one run on an RBI ground-out from senior 3B Kristie Sandefur.

Johns lasted all seven for Cabrini, allowing six earned runs and striking out three. Fetter surrendered just five hits in 7.0 innings and struck out four Cavaliers.

Cabrini concludes the 2009 season with 16 overall victories under second-year head coach Lisa McGregor.
