Men's Basketball Knocks Off Gwynedd-Mercy College, 83-68

Freshman point guard Cory Lemons notched a double-double with 24 points and 10 assists Monday night.

The Cabrini men's basketball team is 5-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference for the first time since the 2004-05 season following an 83-65 win against rival Gwynedd-Mercy College in Nerney Field House. Freshman point guard Cory Lemons posted his first career double-double with 24 points and 10 assists in the win.

Junior forward Dom Farrello paired 16 points with seven rebounds. Senior forward Kevin Misevicius tallied 11 points and four rebounds in 17 minutes played due to foul trouble. Misevicius has scored in double figures in 25 straight games, dating back to the 2008-09 season.

Senior forward Chris Blake totaled 11 points and nine rebounds in 18 spirited minutes off the bench. Sophomore forward Brandon Carter scored nine points and pulled down 11 rebounds. Freshman center Goran Dulac posted eight points and seven boards.

After 20 minutes, the Cavaliers and Griffins were deadlocked at 38-38. Cabrini out-did Gwynedd-Mercy College from field in the opening half, shooting 47.2 percent against 46.7 percent from the visitors.

Lemons fast-break lay-in at the 16:05 mark of the second half handed the Cavaliers a 50-49 advantage and a lead they would never relinquish. Misevicius followed the bucket with a triple from the top of the key.

The Blue & White led by 14 points, 69-55, with 7:46 on the clock after a 3-point field goal from Farrello and another lay-in from Lemons. Cabrini pushed its cushion to a game-high 18 points, 83-65, with 25 seconds remaining.

Senior point guard Matt Johnson totaled 22 points on 7-for-14 shooting overall. Junior forward Jon Hogga scored 13 points and grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds.

The Cabrini defense limited the GMC offense to 31.4 percent shooting in the second half, including a 2-for-11 clip from long range.

The Cavaliers and Griffins last met in the 2009 CSAC title game with an automatic invite to the NCAA Tournament on the line. Gwynedd-Mercy out-lasted the Blue & White, 108-96.

The win Monday night is Cabrini second-year head coach Marcus Kahn's second in two games in Nerney Field House against the Griffins.

Cabrini (10-1, 5-0) resumes its CSAC schedule Thursday, Jan. 14 in Nerney Field House against Keystone College. Game time versus the Giants is set for approximately 8 p.m.
