Men's Basketball Retains Eagle Road Bragging Rights, Downs Rival Eastern University, 80-71

The Cabrini men's basketball team has pushed its win streak to 10 games after an 80-71 win at backyard-rival and non-conference opponent Eastern University Wednesday night. The victory is the Cavaliers' second straight versus the Eagles in a match-up dubbed the “Battle of Eagle Road”.

Senior forward Kevin Misevicius powered the Cabrini offense with a game-high 33 points on 13-for-25 shooting overall. Misevicius tallied four assists, four steals and three rebounds. He knocked down 5-of-11 3-point attempts.

In career two games versus Eastern, Misevicius is averaging 28.0 points and shooting better than 55.0 percent from the floor.

Junior forward Dom Farrello scored 19 points, shooting 7-for-11 overall. Farrello added seven boards and two blocked shots. He has scored in double figures in all but three games this season, including five straight.

Freshman point guard Cory Lemons recorded 15 points, seven rebounds, four assists and four steals. Lemons entered the contest ranked fourth and 22nd nationally in assist-to-turnover ratio (3.58) and assists per game (5.7).

Freshman center Goran Dulac paired nine points with four rebounds. Dulac shot 3-for-4 from the field.

Cabrini led by three points at halftime, 31-28, despite shooting just 38.7 percent from the floor. Misevicius led the Cavaliers' attack at the intermission with 12 points.

The Blue & White opened the second half on a 13-5 run and grabbed an 11-point advantage, 44-33, at the 16:27 mark. The Cavaliers paced the Eagles by 10 points, 57-47, with 8:51 remaining.

Eastern rallied and trimmed its deficit to three points, 69-66, at the 3:23 mark. One possession following, the Eagles trailed by just one point 69-68 after a lay-in from sophomore guard Martin Soaries.

Cabrini answered with five straight points with a lay-in from Lemons and a triple from Misevicius, reasserting a 74-68 cushion with 1:44 left. The Cavaliers closed the final three minutes on an 11-3 push.

Misevicius' 33-point effort marks the sixth time in his Cabrini career that he has scored at least 30 points in a game. The Cavaliers are 5-1 in those contests. He also eclipsed the 900-point plateau for his Blue & White career in just 47 games, now standing 76 points shy of the 1,000-point milestone.

Eastern junior guard Derek Wright led the hosts with 23 points. Soaries (16) and Alex Nelson (13) also added double figures. Soaries posted a double-double, claiming 10 rebounds.

The Cavaliers out-scored the Eagles in the paint, 34-24, and on the fast break, 12-6.

Cabrini has won the last two outings against its rival. In front of a capacity crowd in Nerney Field House, the Cavaliers out-lasted Eastern, 92-88, in double-overtime in the augural meeting of the “Battle of Eagle Road”.

Cabrini (16-1, 10-0) begins its stretch run of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) regular season schedule Saturday on the road against Centenary College. Game time against the Cyclones is set for 7 p.m.
